Suicide

Postby jcclegg on Tue Dec 01, 2009 8:35 pm

It can never be stated enough. If your child/teen exhibits any signs at all towards suicide that you should NEVER take it lightly. The time you do may be the the time you should have paid attention. Ask yourself if it is worth the risk. Even if you think they don't have the means, you'd be surprised at how creative they can be. I know of instances where kids have actually looked up what would be a lethal dose with what they have at home on the internet and made the attempt. Is there anyone else who would share their experiences?

We must keep in mind that what may not seem like anything to us may be REALLY BIG to them. If we shrug it off and tell them they're overreacting, they will stop talking to us. The important thing to remember is that they're confiding in us. Be sure to take the time to listen.
